Yup that is what they sound like. I got between a tom and female a few years ago by packwood. Missed the tom and just sat on the logging road. Kept hearing this sound below me. Pretty soon the sound was right below me and I finally figured out what was going on. The tom was above me and she was below. She finally stepped out at about 12 feet. Did not miss that time. She did run down the hill before dying. While i was getting her out, the tom had come below the road looking for her.
