cougar permits?
« on: August 15, 2009, 08:54:39 PM »
I don't pursue EL GATO, but was wondering who all puts in for the "hunting with dogs" permits? When is the season on the east side? I would love to tag along depending on when the season is. I may have some access to private property and you may want to know where?  :peep:

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I was torn about putting in for a hound permit for the same reasons.  I really want to see what hound hunting is like but I decided not to.  Figured I would do my part to leave the tags for dog owners.  Of course the anti's will probably get a bunch of tags.  :dunno:

I use to go dog hunting for cats and bears.  Was the most exciting hunting I have ever done.  I think every hunter should give it a try at least once.

You should put in for it, trust me it's not going to make a difference.  Good luck!

I just applied for the special cougar hunt permit but I didn't see any section or portion that indicated whether I chose a w/ dogs or w/o dogs options. Still new to this state so I may have overlooked it. At any rate, am very excited to get back out into the woods again. Been away for a few years and now I feel like I need to get back at it!  ;)

Like he said. If anyone got booked with Machias, and if one of you already have tag and no doggerhandler to go with, U guys can always ask me or Machias or Other guy from this site also a buddy of mine and pay my gas trip that would be fair to me. I will be glad to meet u there. As long as u own a snowmobile if road is closed for deep snow. Cant pull lot people on one snowmobile and sled with everything. you guys need snowmobile for your own ride.   :)

That is the one thing that will screw up alot of folks this year.   :twocents:   When you went to make your selection on which unit you wanted to hunt they had they counties listed twice, some were for dogs and some were not, you had to refer to the hunting regs for the correct unit.

Nope, still confused, gonna call WDFW today because when I bought the cougar tag at Walmart they never asked me what area I wanted to hunt in and when I went to the website to apply for the special hunt permit it didn't ask for a region to hunt in or anything like that. I thought the special hunt apps were for areas in which the WDFW would going to tell people which areas they could hunt.  :dunno:

I am definitely going to stop by the WDFW office in Mill Creek today and find out what the heck is the deal!

I figured it out. I bought the cougar tag, then the special hunt permit and now I have to go back to the website and apply for the GMU I want to hunt in.  ;) Decisions decisions.

I guess my only concern would be getting a tag in area I have never been before and then worrying about messing it up.

Well technically what you bought was an application, if you get drawn, you will then have a permit.   ;)

Sometimes I wish permits could be purchased.   :bash:

So, I applied for the hound hunt and will have to rely on a partner for the dogs. Will let you know if I get drawn, not holding my breath as I have a whopping 1 point towards permit draws now.  :chuckle:  At any rate, the permit gives you 4 options of areas to hunt. I chose 1st: 9010 - Okanogan, 2nd: 9012 - Okanogan-Ferry, 3rd 9013 Stevens-Pend Oreille and finally 4th: a non hound hunt: 9001 - South Cascades.

I wish everyone good luck in the draw process and hope to get lucky myself.  ;)
