Here's the bad news. With our draw odds, most of us will never have to worry about this problem. I envy action shooter, wish I had the $$$ to book a hunt up north.
I hear ya actionshooter. People probably have th esame thoughts about me. I just call it passion. I pinch in a lot of other places. (dining out, coffee bar, cigs and booze, cell phone, etc.)

(dining out, coffee bar, cigs and booze, cell phone, etc.)I hear both of you (although I'm 21 and not even in the same position as you). Sometimes when you have a passion, you just make things work. Actionshooter, I'm sure that for you (like me) it has been a dream for years to hunt mountain goats. No matter what your salary is, if you just save your money, you can eventually go on those kind of hunts. For you it is happening now, for me it will probably be another 10-15 years, but I will hunt mountain goats in my life!

Mountain goat has always been my dream hunt, ya there are others I would love to do, the goat was always first choice. I started putting in for Wa when I was your age, started putting in for other states a few years ago. You say in 10-15 years, that would put you at about my age. If I have any advice for you, it would be don't wait that long. Do it in 5 years, start saving now if you have to. There are so many hunts I want to do and if I wait every 10-15 years I won't get to them all.
My wife shot an 9.5 yr. old a few weeks ago. It only had 8" horn, nothing but a huge brute with little mean daggars. I posted photos in another thread of where he fell and stuff. He was all banged up and broke a horn so he was a meat and back skin animal.I'm going out next week for mine. I'll be trying for a trophy type animal. I don't mind a short hair goat. In Sept. actually I'd consider them moderate in my area. The hair is even and thick but not wooly and crazy like a winter goat. In Alaska the goat rug is a great option for a goat. Be prepared for a HEAVY load if you haul out a complete hide and boned out meat! Also working the hoof is very tricky so you'll need a good working area and time to get the skull out and the hoof properly processed for the rug mount or a full mount if your going that direction.Move to AK and you'll get over-the-counter Goat, Sheep, Brown Bear, Deer, Moose, and Black Bear......oh and Bou too. What you get in tags comes out in costs and time to access the above species. This is big country and one region has only a small portion of the big game options. I think Wrangell would be one of the top fishing and hunting destinations/home. Elk, Moose, Deer, Wolf, Brown Bear, Black Bear, and Goat all in the Wrangell area. Fishing too, as many varieties as a guy has time for.Last night in prep for my goat hunt I humped up the hill behind my house, shot a buck, and carried him home in an evening romp. I rolled in the door about 11pm. One tag of six burned. Five to go. Ya just gotta get used to traveling heavy and fast for an effective goat hunt IMHO. You never know how much alpine country your white quarry will make you run for that kill shot.I'll go with a shoulder mount if I get one next week. I will be gunning for a big Billy only. If it's ultra thick and luxurious then I'd spend the time and $$$$ on a rug. I just don't like the late hunts up here. The days are very short and the weather is less than enjoyable. You end up spending a heap of energy hauling in cold weather camp supplies and thats energy I rather spend hauling goat.Good luck to you WA tag holders. I always wanted to hunt goats near Lake Chelan. Thats great country in there.
Your spoiled!!
