Coon.......I am not really sure how to prove the point on the string. Its been in every magazine and book since Genesis practically, and I am not even sure. I do know that I don't even pretend to know a 1/4 of what there is to know about bow mechanics, and I don't want to question the likes of Schuh, Jones, and Adams. I figure they know a hell of alot more than I do. I can imagine that it can cause specified stress to weaken the string and eventually cause it to break. They also recommend changing your strings alot, which I do not do, but had one snap on me the day before elk season one year. That was a scary experience and very inconvienent.
