Dialing in scope
« on: August 17, 2009, 12:22:25 PM »
What is the advantage to having a scope where you have to dial in a scope for different distances, i read where so many clicks for a certain distance.

So you can just put the crosshairs where you want the bullet to go instead of holding over.

As long as you know the ballistics/bullet drop (based on weight and fps) of the particular round that you are shooting.

You're THEORETICALLY "good to go"... you ain't really good to go untill you've actually shot at those distances and verified the drop. Same goes for a turret, a b-plex, and even a custom reticle installed in your scope by Leupold.

I burned through a lot of ammo and time verifing my drop, using a leica rangefinder i got one gun out to 700yds and my small gun with a b-plex out to 500yds,the wind was the part i didnot like.

Yep... any monkey can turn a turret or use a b-plex... but shooting in the wind quickly seperates the guys who truly know what they're doing. Hopefully, in another thousand rounds or so... I'll know what I'm doing shooting long range in the wind.

read here http://www.snipercentral.com/ lots of good information on long range shooting. i have shot out to 650yds on a claim day and have hit my targets. the only thing is in a windy condition the wind at 600yds could be different than at 200yds tricky stuff to compensate for.

The rifle I had in this video is zeroed dead on at 100 yards, I range a target, dial in the scope, hold the duplex cross hairs dead on, shoot the target. When the wind is down, from 0-1200 yards, range it, dial the scope, hold dead on, shoot.

7MM REMINGTON MAG
Loaded with 175 grain bullet 72.0 H-1000 zeroed at 400 hundred yards at 3088 FPS
Should be good for all ranges at 400 yds and less with out ajusting scope.
If you aim at front leg and belly line all shots will shoot higher up to 8.3 inches
high at 200 yards. Will be good for any deer sized animal and larger.
