« on: August 20, 2009, 02:29:40 PM »
I am looking at getting a new trail cam.  I have a couple ald 35mm cams and looking to upgrade.  I would like to keep it under $200.  What cam would you choose?  Thanks.  I cant wait to get some picks for you guys.

When hubby and I were looking to get our first trail-cam I did quite a bit of research online. Found a great website that seemed to really break down the plus-es & minus-es of all the cameras. http://www.trailcampro.com/

We too didnt want to spend a bundle so after all the research went with the Bushnell Trophy Cam. We've had it out a few times & so far not too bad, no night pics yet (except when we set it up in the kitchen to test & caught a couple "wild" kids :o ). Out in the field we've got some good pics of elk, a moose, couple of deer & even a good lookin bear.

I must say though, I read up on here about making a homebrew camera, & had I done that before we bought a camera, I very well may have gone that route...very well may still see about putting one together!  :chuckle:

Bushnell Trophy Cam.  I've been running it side-by-side with a Moultrie Game Spy and like the Bushnell.

I have a moultrie D60 and I hate it compaired to the 2 Bushnell trophy cams I have.  The battery life in the moultrie's is a joke.  $20 8 pack of Energizer lith batteries in the Bushnell cams and 1000's of pictures and video later, batteries are still full. The pictures are better than the d60 also.  Doesn't have a lazer to assist in aiming, but it is small and easy to use.  If you have a card reader or lap top with you when setting up it's easy enough just to check your aim that way.  Then you no it's right on the money.
Work sucks!!!! I should be shed hunting

D-40 is a good start but after running 2 for 6 months now I have some new thoughts. I don't like the battery life. My buddy has a I-5.0 and it is much better on the batterys. I think if a guy is going to have the cam set up alot he would be better off to spend a little more and get a newer cam that is better on batterys. It will pay for it's self soon.

I have been buying cheap batteries @ $1.00 for 2. They last just as long as them expensive duracells. It cost me about $3.00 per month to run the cams now.
