A good starter bow?
« on: August 21, 2009, 07:24:57 AM »
Over the course of the last couple of weeks, my son has decided he'd really like to take up bow hunting. It's a little late in the year right now to start buying the gear, so I told him next year he'd get his chance. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone could give me some good ideas for good quality but inexpensive bows and accessories.

I know Hoyt makes good bows, but they seem to be a little out of my price range right now. I saw a Kodiak bow at Wholesale Sports for just under $300. No one was behind the counter then so he didn't get a chance to try it out. Does Kodiak make good stuff? Does anyone make a good starter kit? What about arrows, Aluminum or carbon fiber? How about things like tree stands?

My son is 16, stands 5'10" and is plenty strong so he wouldn't need a youth bow or anything like that.

Maybe a good used bow for the off-season to see how he really takes to it, and then really take the time to get him set up right.

Check out some pawn shops in your area, you can usually pick up a bow pretty cheap. as long as you are willing to haggle with the blood suckers.
