I'll weigh in on the Great Danner Debate:
In 1995 when I was an Army Ranger I was issued a pair of Danners. They took forever to break in, and when they did, they developed a "fold" somewhere in the heel that caused quite a bit of discomfort. THey had taken so long to break in, I didn't turn them in for new ones for fear of having to go through that horrifying break in process again. As a consequence, I only wore them when I REALLY needed to wear an insulated boot. I still have them, but never wear them as I now have a nice insulated pair of Bellvilles for my cold-weather military boots (love the Bellvilles). I only base my opinion on Danner on this one pair of boots, so it may not be fair, but I would never spend my own money on them. THey had an American Flag sewn into them too.
My boots right now are a pair of Irish Setters that I bought on sale 2 years ago. THey were less than $100, and I bought them because they were a deal, and my Wolverine Durashocks were worn out (another boot I will never buy again) and I needed a boot for elk season. I am rough on boots, and frankly didn't expect them to last more than a year or two. The boots are well into their 3rd year and showing no signs of wearing out yet. I am very impressed.
THat being said, I have to check out Kennetrek have heard a lot of great things about them.
