Congrats on a first bear, a nice way to break the ice.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

OK, the story…I’m sorry it has been a crazy weekend.
Friday I got an invite to go salmon fishing on the coast. As I was leaving to head out early that morning I remembered to throw my gun and hunting “stuff” in my truck in case I had time to hit a couple of my bear spots on the way home. We did great fishing and I was on my way home by early afternoon and hit the bear spots at the perfect time. I had just pulled into spot “a” when I looked up and across the river there, 400 yards away,  was a bear sitting in a berry patch looking at me. I grabbed my gun and binocs and headed down to the edge of the river to get a better look and make sure I was seeing what I thought I was seeing. I couldn’t find it for the longest time and was beginning to think I was just seeing things when I caught movement. I looked and could see the bear calmly making its way through the berry patch…rangefinder read 132 yards to the nearest log. I waited and when the bear cleared the log I settled the cross hairs just behind the shoulder and squeezed…I could hear the “whack” and saw the bear go down…it got to its feet and fell right over…another 30 seconds and I heard the “death bawl”. I only had a little bit of light and had to swim the slack water to get to the bear and thankfully was able to gut the bear and pull it back across the river in a canvas game bag…couple hairy moments, but I made it. There is a lot more details including dropping my tag in the river and having to dive in to get it  :o, getting stung by wasps, and more…but that it the gist. It was the perfect adventure/bear hunt. I am so excited about this bear. I am going to get a shoulder mount to show off the awesome white patch. I mentioned earlier, but this bear has an amazing coat on it, long, thick, and not a single rub mark. Got the meat processed last night and the hide has been in the freezer for a couple days now. All in all, a great way to start the 2009-10 hunting season!

Sounds like a great hunt! I could do without the wasps, that had to hurt! Glad you got a bear!
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

Wait so you took a shot from the other side of the river? I was under the impression that was against game laws along with shooting across roadways. Did i miss read the regulations?

if thats the case tehn wouldnt a lot of duck and goose hunting be illegal?
i dont think its illegal because you can shoot from a boat as long as the engine is off and not contributing to the momentum of the boat

I have never read the waterfowl regs so i have no idea what they say. I thought i saw something about shooting across roads and rivers.... I KNOW i read that you can't shoot across a road/highway. I may be way off base on this or have just misunderstood what i read, because the game regulations are always written crystal clear in plain English LOL.

OK this was completely my bad. It doesn't say anything about shooting across the water so I misunderstood something, somehow. Sorry for this one guys.
