west-side bear down
« on: August 24, 2009, 07:43:07 AM »
heres a couple pics from fri. Took the gf bear hunting with me and it was her first experience seeing a kill. Shot the bear at 405 yards and it fell in its tracks. Average size bear but a great time! Enjoy the pics....

Great pics. Just lookin at distance between ears, that looks like a pretty good "average size" bear. I would love to hear more of the story behind it.

Congrats!

That bear looks like it's more like at least a 4 or 5 yr old. Nice bear

Very nice bear, I agree that is better than your average bear. Congrats on being able to share your experience with the GF. It's always better when you are doing things together

Had some pto to burn, so I took Fri. off and headed for the blue hucks. It was pretty socked in and slow for the first few hours, but at about 9 it started to break up. We were watching a pretty nice buck at about 800 yards when the bear fed its way out between us. I got set up for the shot and watched em for about half an hour.  The bear and fog finally cooperated and I had a good clear broadside shot and took it. At just over 400 yards the bear crumpled without moving a mussle or doing the ol' bear bawl. I was lucky to have a few buddies hunting in the area who gave me a hand with the drag-thankfully because it was a tough one...I was shooting 165gr out of a 300wsm. By the way, dont think that I was just wing'n lead 400yds, I practice with my rifle allot :)

I was just wondering about the caliber because I like to know what other people shoot. I shoot the same setup!, 165gr, Nosler Accubonds in my 300wsm.
Great shot bud!!!!!

Cool always good to see a few more bears being harvested.  It started out fairly slow this season for most.

Now that is a real beaut, and the bear is nice too!

Seriously, you are quite modest to call that an average bear.

Congratulations.

400 yds is not far to a good shooter 1 m.o.a at 400 is only 4in thats alot of room to play with and a 300wsm is a straight shootin bullet. But it would help if he had a picture of were he shot from. Like have his girlfriend go stand were he shot from and him standing behind the bear. Because you know the first thing someone is going to say is bullsh*t 400yds unless they know how good of a shot you have. The terrain that he's in at 400yds with a straight shot is unlikely because stumps are taller than the bear and to many factor's.If it was a 400yd shot nice job man..
