There seems to be a bunch of miss information concerning Hancock land.
Some things are clear (I think)
You pay a yearly access fee (limited supply) which allows you to hunt during seasons for anything except elk.
Elk tags are done by lottery (last year I believe 12 were issued).
Most of the confusion seems to be if in fact you can walk in to hunt? For Elk that is NO!
I do not know the answer for anything else.

You can walk in and hunt on both the Snoqualmie and White River Hancock treefarms. You cannot walk in to the Kapowsin Hancock treefarm...that is trespassing. All of the tree farms go by the rules of the owners before Hancock bought them and they ARE all different. Kapowsin is a draw for Elk for the permit holders only...White River is open for walk in Elk only in the "Issaquah" unit part of the tree farm and the White River part of the treefarm is permit draw only from the WDFW. The Snoq farm is open for Elk but there are only Elk in a few areas but they amounts of Elk seem to be building every year. You can walk in for Deer on both Snoq and White River but again...Kapowsin is access for permit holders only. I know its confusing but it is what it is. I know Kapowsin is sold out for permits and I believe White River is also....but don't know about Snoq. When available the White River and Snoq permits are $200...the Kapowsin is $300 but I would imagine they may be going up next year. Hope that helped........Les

also people need to know that the permits to get on the farm are per person. anyone over 18 needs to have a permit. you can not just get a permit for the car or truck and take a bunch of people.

sad day when they made that change. cause that was the end of my family hunting the farm. my parents and family has been hunting the farm sense 1950.

i could put you on elk in there every day all day. they are closer to fall city then people think. and they only place they are all year long in the farm. other places you might get lucky and find them...very lucky.

when you buy a kapowsin permit, you can hunt, buckley, kapowsin and eatonville..thats a huge area...eatonville permit is 200 but you can only hunt eatonville.the permit is for your family, wife and kids if the kids are under 18.,,you get a sticker for two rigs if you want.

Rasbo and Moosestock nailed it.  Seems like there are tons of misconceptions about it.  Just wait when the Vail Unit is permit only, only more confusion.

Hey I would check with their office.  I don't have my packet with me but some areas are completely closed without permits.  I know the White River Forest area is open for walking, horseback riding, and bicycling, but you have to have a permit to get the key to the gate for your vehicle.  No ATVs, period.

Rasbo and Moosestock, your info (thanks for the clarification BTW) should be "stickified" to the top of the forum!

Every year we have the same questions, and most like me can't remember yesterday unless it is in a thread I can see daily, lol

Hi folks,  I'm new here (and a new archery hunter).  Just wanted to chime in and say that I called Hancock (360-879-4200), today.  I asked about the Snoqualmie and White River tree farms.  I was told that it's ok to go in on foot, bicycle, or horse without a permit for both farms.  I was told that drive-in permits are sold out.  Also, the gal asked me to pay close attention to any closure signs on the gates regarding fire danger.

Cheers,

-steve

Ya I agree... Vail Tree Farm in Rainier is more than likely going to be PERMIT ONLY SOON... If people keep dumping crap out there and vandalzing (SP) the property... Some people ruin it for others!!
