Moose are starting to rut
« on: August 31, 2009, 10:04:45 AM »
Went up scouting today , saw a big bull about 50" wide ,the brows were palmated with the paddle quite odd 10x9 in velvet chasing a cow and calf sniffing them the moved on and went clear across mt looking for others, thought it was odd he hadn't rubbd it off yet. Tried to get a pic had moose at 50 yards and some hikers came up and sent him crashing off :bash:

Everything seems early this year, bet that was a rush for you to see a big bull like that, another month and you'll have weapon in hand,.

Yeah it was exciting :) also walked up on a cow at 5 yards! She had no clue I was there , wind swirled she knew then  :chuckle: saw 2 nice whitetail bucks , 5x5 walk right up on me while I was glassing the mt. I watched another that was rubbed clean and had his fall grey coat already

Assume you were in "the other place" and not Mica.
What a great experience.  50" is GREAT !
Gonna try to get out after work tomorrow and see if I can put my first deer down.

I hope when I die my wife doesn't sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

Just checking. Thanks.  I will keep an eye out while chasing the deer over at Mica and let you know what I see.

Short trip tonight.  Mainly wanted to see how many die-hard hunters were in the area. Only two rigs at the gate to the mountain and one rig at the first yellow gate to the DNR land.  Disturbing is that the DNR land appears to be posted for a timber sale. Did not hear any shots -----------------------------oooopppss it is archery season - sorry !!!  They also had Elder road open today so you did ot have to go through Rockford.
