Here is my last batch of pics before hunting season.  I hope that it stays this promising.  Might be a short season. :chuckle:

Good luck Matt, are you going to shoot that bull if he shows up?  Might be tempting, but a big boy might come in and kick his ass

No jinxing.  I have hunted that area for the past 6 years and I know when and where the elk will be.  Even with other hunters running around the elk always go into the same hiding spot.

I'm hunting cow/spike so that bull is safe.  I noticed that the big boys have not been with the cows at least not on camera with them.  That little rag horn has poor genes, hopefully he will run into someone with a bull tag.

Well I have the bull tag and am getting a lot of pictures like that, but no big boys yet. I'm ready for it to start.

How are you hunting cows and spikes when there is no general season in that unit? Unless you're hunting the late season. I just get the impression you're hunting early archery.   :dunno:

Bobcat, Taneum half of the unit is open to general archery, cow or spike.  The Little Naches side is open only to the permit holders like me.  Thanks Matt, pics look familiar.  Later.

yep that's right.  Oh there are no elk in the Taneum unit.  It's nasty all overgrown and no acess.  Everyone should stay in the Little Naches.

A lot of guys ride bikes out of the LN over into the Taneum.  Next weekend should be crazy.  Hopefully it rains all weekend.  :chuckle:

Actually when the majority of hunters come up this weekend to set up camp and the road hunters start their patrol these elk will no longer hit the salt licks at least not unilt 2 a.m.  They go deep into the reprod.  Ya just gots to know where and when.  Come about the 6th, if there is a lot of motor cycle activity, they will completely change all their patterns.

Well so far three for six in camp.  2 cows and one 357 bull.  I got a cow opening day which was good because I was sick as a dog.  If it wasn't for the first time elk hunters out there messing things up we probably would have all the tags filled by now.

It is hard not to say something to the 2 guys that walk into a drainage with 40 head of elk in it and come out saying there was some good sign but didn't see anything.  We had located a 380 bull on the 7th and he had a huge harem.  We watch these two guys walk right down the middle of this bowl (with the wind swirling every which way)surrounded by elk and they didn't see any of them.  Unfortunately the bull gathered them all up and headed to seclusion.  I know that we all have to learn but it is frustrating.  These guys walked right into a few set ups without realizing it.  Even took a dump under a kids tree stand.  The kid didn't know what to say so he just let him do his business.  At least the kid got his first elk out of that stand on Sunday.

I have thought about what I would have done in that situation.  I think that I would let him drop trou then rip off the baddest bugle that I could muster.  :hello:
