easy u just make a cut between the hip and ribs once u have skinned out half of the critter and reach in and u can pretty much get them with out a knife, just use your fingers and pry. It makes it easy when u r back in and u plan on deboning it u can get all the meat and not even gut out an animal

Sweet.  Thanks Duck!     I didn't know it was that easy.

I seen the same thing around Saint Helen's,about three years ago.During rifle elk season. My father in law shot a bear in a nasty hole, and when we got down to it there where three elk carcases, all of them where missing the heads and backstraps.I did a little looking around wear I thought the person mite have shot from, and I found two 30,06 casings.I turned them in to the game warden and told him wear to go,but I haven't heard anything back. :dunno:

The landowner went looking around there last nite, didn't see anything but with that much property it would be easy to miss. He did catch someone cutting a hole in his fence trying to get in to hunt.  Bad news for that guy. :chuckle:

I saw the same thing about 15 years ago up at Weyhauser in Enumclaw.  My dad and I think it was a big 5X5 that we had seen a couple times before and never after that.  At that time the area was spike only and come to think of it not even Elk Season.  We reported it but I don't know what ever happend I was only 12 at the time.
