Blues Bear Down
« on: September 01, 2009, 08:08:02 PM »
Shot this one this morning in the Blue Creek unit, nice fat sow probably pushing 250, has a really neat heart shaped white patch on her chest.  Thinking of getting a 1/2 mount to show off the markings.  If I can talk my momma bear into it. :chuckle:

Not much of a story I was up in a big canyon off Lewis Peak at about 4200' spotted her first thing in the morning coming up out of the creek bottom.  I had been thinking about some conversations on here about shot placement and decided to try the right behind the head shot, I have to say I am a believer, she never took a step.  She was still alive when I got to her so I finished her with my .44, much easier than tracking her through the thick stuff with no blood trail like I've seen before.  I have never seen an animal with as much back fat as this bear, she literally had 2.5-3" in spots.  Still working on the old lady to let me mount her ( just realized that sounded really bad. :chuckle:)

Great Bear!!!  Pretty common color up there from what I've seen.  I'll be up there this weekend with my 14 year old son.  Packing a rifle in case we see a bear.

Pascokid,
My boy and I put the stalk on her last Spring when she had two very large cubs clinging to her. The cubs were WHITE as a polar bear and were on her nerves, she'd knock them around when they got too close to her and bite at them....it was pretty obvious that she was prime and ready to move on. There's no question about the bear, as she's by far the most unique phase bear I've ever seen. We got within 75 yards of the three of them and were able to watch for close to an hour. What a blast. I thought about heading over there this weekend to see If I could find her again....I'll be fishing instead. Way ta go! I hope mama gives you the thumbs up....
