Knight bighorn .54 sabot/bullet & charge combos that are accurate?
« on: September 01, 2009, 04:55:00 PM »
Hi Folks,

I just got a William's peep site and went to the range and could not hit a 3X2 piece of plywood at first. I'm shooting the barnes 325 gr. bullet in the red sabot( because that was recommended by knight as the most accurate combo). I'm using 2-- 60 grain pyrodex pellets. Do you guys think that is too much or would the extra charge significantly impact the accuracy? Another problem was that I almost busted a nut trying to get the sabot/bullet down the barrel. Is this normal? Next, I raised the William's sight by 4 clicks and could hit the bottom of the board but still 2 feet low @ 50 yards. Does anyone know how many "clicks" the William's sight can be adjusted before reaching it's limit? I'm a newbie to muzzleloading and any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I can't answer your question about the clicks, however, I can tell you that Knight Bighorns have a very tight barrel and make sabots tough to load.  I have found that Harvester "crushed rib" sabots load with 1/2 the pressure of other sabots and that's all I use now.  Hopefully that helps.  Also, you might try a charge around 100grain to see where it patterns.  just my  :twocents:

Good Luck!

Was hoping to shoot this weekend.....Also, does anyone have experience with with using a laser device to boresight a muzzle loader? Thanks.

I believe boresighting only works on scoped firearms.  With a peep, bring your target in closer to you, say 25 yds, and adjust.

You can boresight it by taking out the breech plug and looking through the bore. Move the sight until it is lined up to the same point as you are looking through the bore. But it might be easier to just shoot first at 25 yards and adjust from there.
