WOW, I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS A TREE HUGGERS MESSAGE BOARD.

How the heck is using a quad the proper and legal way discussion or illegal even referred to as a tree hugger message board???

Only tree hugging I do is when I am hugging a sampling to give me a better rest.....

WOW, I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS A TREE HUGGERS MESSAGE BOARD.

Many of us eat granola as well  ;)

I know don't feed the trolls but it just had to be said  :chuckle:

If you want to roadhunt please stick to the roads it is that simple if it says trail closed to motorized vehicles and you are not authorized to be there then either get off your quad and walk or go hunt where you can drive legally.  I must admit I always found the fully camo head to toe with makeup and a bow driving a loud quad or motorcycle to be about as contradictory as can be.

On the other hand if you choose to hunt near legal quad and dirtbike trails on labor day weekend you made a poor choice.....so suck it up.

90+% of the time I see absolutely no use for them....I personally would luv to see more restrictions on them and way more enforcement on those using them illegally.  I can't tell you how may times I've been screwed by guys on em when I'm turkey hunting.

Did you guys work on the Obama campaign.  We should all drive smart cars or hangout at hemp fest.  Stop whinning about others who enjoy the great outdoors, to each his own, if you dont like it hike further away and find low populated areas. You can always find spots with nobody around, do your homework this state has lots of wilderness inaccessable to motorized vehicles.  Messing with other peoples property when they are nowhere around sounds like a coward punk move to me, no better than your average thug breaking into cars and homes, most of these guys are blue collar working hard for every dollar they have.  You give hunters a bad name.

No, those who have no common sense with quads, give the rest a bad name.

So, basically you are defending illegal activity just because you may be a "hard working, blue collar guy"?  Asinine!  If you (and it sounds from your statement that would apply to you) are doing something illegal (such as being several miles in on a horse or foot traffic only trail) others should turn a blind eye and allow you to break the law and, more than likely, poach?  I don't care who the f- you are or think you are, if you are breaking the law you deserve any wrath that a law abiding citizen is able to inflict on you (to a certain degree).  Comparing hiding a quad and letting the air out of the tires with 0 damage to it to breaking and entering or theft is just plain stupid!  It is slob hunters with your attitude who give hunters a bad name not those of us who play strictly by the rules and do not find any excuse to bend the law in our favor!

I hunted West Calispell with my disabled uncle last year. We were on a road system that is disabled vehicle access only and had two guys come in on quads, no disabled placards, ride in, get off walk around a bit. I dropped down onto the road and asked them if they knew they were in a disabled vehicle access only area, which they did, but they didn't care. It's poor sportsmanship all the way around. Don't use them in an area you're not supposed to, otherwise I don't care.

I don't know how many time we have to cover this....quads are legal anywhere they want to go OFFROAD on national forest land.  Call your local ranger district and ask, they will say the same.  If you don't like quads and are bothered by people riding them then go into the millions of acres of wilderness.  You guys talk about quad riders being lazy, but you guys are too lazy to hike into the wilderness to get away from them.  So either deal with them or go into the wilderness.  I've had quads ride into areas that I've been hunting before too, but that's just part of the game when you hunt on PUBLIC land where motorized use is legal.  I understand that it's irritating when they break the rules, but you can't tell me that all of you quad haters always follow all the rules either.  I see and read lots of storys and pictures of folks poaching, littering etc without the use of quads so make sure you point the finger at everyone who needs it not just one group.  Keep in mind too that when you drive your big fancy diesel truck up into the woods and park and walk way back in and then find a quad and vandalize it, (and yes even letting the air out of the tires is vandalization under the law), that the quad rider may "repay" you.  And trust me your truck tires are A LOT more exspensive than quad tires.  It's not the right way to handle the situation and you guys know it, it makes you no better than the illegal quad rider.  Stop your whining, quads and quad riders are not going to go away, they are the biggest motorsports user ground in the country, either get over it and go hunt or stay home.  One last thing for you quad haters, next year under the national travel management plan, the forest service is required to open up roughly 30% of there road systems for "multiple use" which includes quads.  just my  :twocents:

I think the focus on the argument has been those who go where they are NOT legal...I'm all for legal usage, but I get angry to find them behind gates where they are not legal, or in wilderness areas which are clearly marked.  I dealt with this annually in the Eagle Caps in Oregon.  The focus on the bashing here is ILLEGAL use.

good post. i wouldnt ever mess with some ones stuff, im not that type of person that thinks its ok to take the law into my own hands. letting air outa the tires does cause damage cause how is the guy supposed to get his quad out on flat tires without damage? you reep what you sow

You'll probably have to go over it a couple times more for me to understand it because it is slightly confusing. LOL   Its probalby the confusion between state and national forest land I bet.  Only place I have my beef is when I hike in because the sign says no motorized vehicles (say behind my house up in the Wenas during the winter.)  I'm on snowshoes and the sled is in the back because I don't want to break any rules, and all of a sudden a quad comes puttin by.   :chuckle:  I'm probably not psycho enough to shoot the guy, but boy I can sure put a hex on his karma.   I'm not a quad hater by the way(kind of hard to be judgemental when you love snowmobiles ), as my Dad has fun with his, but I sure hate that.

Washington sucks, but you guys should see Idaho. . . It's brutal.

I love the terrain, the animals, the weather, basically everything about Idaho, except everyone rides the god damn quads around because they're too lazy to be hunting this type of ground.  I've been sitting in my stand 4 of the last 5 evenings, and didn't hear a thing the first 3 nights.  Low and behold, Friday of Labor Day weekend comes around and all I can hear is quads all over the mountain.

Shoot, I was watching a doe out in the clearcut above me from my stand about a half hour before dark. (The stand is on a bench below the clearcut just inside the timber on a major game trail). . . I can hear the quads, sounded like two of them, getting closer, and the doe looked in that direction for a while and turned and went back in the timber.  I got on google earth this morning and measured how far away they were. . . About 2/3 mile across the canyon, and they pushed the animal in.

Moral of he story isn't that they screwed up my hunt, as I wasn't planning to take the doe if she came by, but that these retarded quad hunters don't realize what they're doing to the patterns of nice bucks that may still be coming out in the daylight this time of year.  I don't understand why you'd hunt off a quad during archery season anyways, as there's no way in hell you'll get into bow range of something.  Maybe I can see it during rifle season when they can just jump off and start blazing at something running at 500 yards. . .

What reaaaally pisses me off about them is that this is national forest ground, and the gates are open until October 1. . .  All these roads are easily driveable with a pickup.  The pickup is 10x quieter, why bomb around on something so loud screwing up both your own hunt and the hunt of anyone else in the area?

Wow, sorry for the venting, buuuuuut I hate quads, motorcycles etc. if you can't tell....

maybe they weren't even hunting.  They may have been just out enjoying their multiple use national forest which by the way they PAY to use through atv registrations and gas taxes.  Do you have to pay a registration fee to walk in the forest?  You could always hunt in the wilderness and not have to worry about quads....theres LOTS of wilderness in Idaho.

Somebody just does not understand that not all Natl. Forrest land is legally accessible by motorized vehicles.  This same person also does not seem to understand that most of us do not have a problem with atvs where they are legal but do have serious issues when they are in violation of the posted restriction!   :beatdeadhorse:
