bigger bore rifle
« on: September 03, 2009, 03:18:40 PM »
I am thinking I need a rifle that shoots fatter bullets, for no good reason.
My choices are:

35 Whelen

.375 H&H

I cant figure out how to make it a poll

there you have a poll...any other calibers you'd like to add?

375 H&H leave that slow old 45/70 on the shelf

Something in 338.  Unless you're going to Africa the 338 is far more versatile than the guns you mentioned (also far superior ballistically speaking).  They can be loaded for long range shooting or for busting brush.  There's a bigger selection of bullets for them and the ammo and brass is more readily available.

While I have no experience with it the 338 Ruger is interesting.  Probably go it or the old reliable win mag.  If you really wanted to getting into canyon pounding stuff long range the RUM would be viable too.
