Idaho bear down!!!!
« on: September 03, 2009, 05:45:10 PM »
well, got my first bear last night, 9-2. we set up the barrel on the first day of the season and it just got hammered everyday since. we had cleared a spot for a ground blind also, so we went in in the afternoon and upped the bait and set up the blind. we set up about 10 yards from the barrel and waited... and waited... and waited some more. about 730 a big bear came in, but didnt like the looks of the blind, started wlking towards us a few steps and then turned to leave without even giving me a chance to draw my bow. :'( but after about 10 more minutes another bear came in from the other direction and ate some that spilled out from the barrel, all we could see was his head. when he did come all the way out i was ready and drew back, put my pin behind his shoulder and let him have it!! i heard the arrow hit the metal barrel and bounce back toward us, and off teh bear went. i couldnt belive i shot through him and made a trangle hole in the barrel!! we waited for a couple seconds and heard the death roars. we climbed out and went for the track, all of 50 yards that it was. it was in a hell hole. chest high brush that you could barely walk through. we tried to drag him and could barely move him. we ended up skinning and quartering him right there. got out late at night. auled him into the idaho fish and game to be chacked in and the meat for pepperoni  .

it was sure a rush being that close to these critters!!!

VERY NICE Bear!!  What a fatty.  Is he a little thin on the hair or is that just the dust making it look a little on the thin side.
