The Alpine GMU is the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. They are the same.

That's news to me. But if that's true, then that area would be open for the high hunt, because it says the Alpine Lakes Wilderness is open. It doesn't say the Alpine GMU. But you better check your maps and make sure.

Actually I think he is correct. I believe there are sections of 460 which are in the ALW and would be open for the September Rifle hunt.

looking at my map alpine lakes wilderness is in a couple GMU's but it is the wilderness area that is open for high buck so you need to make sure your inside the wilderness area not just the GMU ;)

The original question
Quote
is the high hunt in alpine lakes the actually wilderness area OR the alpine unit
or both?

Was answered. Which is both the GMU Alpine (249) and Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

He followed up with  more though regarding 460. That is why he is getting different answers later on.

Could be. I have always hunted the Alpine Lakes Wilderness east of the Pacific Crest Trail so I never thought about it.

On a side note, there is a 600 acre fire up there and some trails are closed, and will be probably at least through the end of the month.

For info look here:
