Help Me Choose My First Bow
« on: October 04, 2009, 01:53:25 PM »
I want my first bow to be my last bow. Cost is not an option for me as I have developed a philosophy, you get what you paid for and it actually cost more in the long run if you start out with cheap stuff.
Just like my fishing gear. I started out with Hodgman neoprenes, and another neoprene, then upgraded to a heavy duty canvase cloth material, and finally ended up with the Simms Goretex. If I had just started out with the Simms, I would have saved so much money from all the stuff in between and never had to endure all the bad things from a malfunctioning water.
I don't want to make another senseless cheap mistake. I want a bow that I can be proud of for as long as I own it. Please advice. Thanks

No one can recommend a bow to you, I like bowtech, he likes hoyt, one for matthews.

Just take yourself to a good bowshop and shoot some different bows, see which one YOU like.  Wether it be PSE, Bowtech, Bear, Matthews, in my opinion they are all about the same..

I have a Martin Fire Cat I like real well - fast, light, short axle to axle.

I would look at the Martin line of bows - local company, excellent customer service and their top line bows are less money than other brands.

bonus: the Martin catalog and calender girls are smokin hot   ;)

I would hit a few different shops and try multiple bows and see which one you feel the most comfortable with.  I just upgraded from the Bowtech Alligence this year to the Mathews Reezen and have shot very well with it.
Cut em!

I would stay with the brands that have a great warranty, smooth draw, and decent speed.  In that order.

I will most definitely try out a few recommened bow before I decide on a keeper.
But it's going to be very difficult for me since I am new at this and really don't know what to feel for.
What are your recommendations for me to look or feel for?

Thanks

Sorry if I offended you bro. I was using this screen name from Piscatorial Pursuit for years and just thought I use it here.

You will definitely have to try them before buying, but people can give you suggestion.  I started out with the same concept.

You need to have an idea of what feature you want first.  Axle-to-axle length, speed, smooth draw, brace height, forgiving, etc.

Here are couple popular brands and models:

PSE: X-force, bowmadness
Matthews: DXT, Reezen, Monster
Bowtech: Captain, Admiral, SWAT, Sentinel
Elite: GT500, Z28
Hoyt
Martin
Diamond

The list goes on.
