Moutrie 4.0 Repair of Flash?
« on: September 09, 2009, 04:56:30 PM »
My buddy and myself both bought Moultrie 4.0's last year. Neither one of us have had a problem until last month. The flash in his quit working. Everything else works fine but the flash. We were thinking about tearing into it and seeing if we could fix it. Anyone have any experience in this area?
Thanks in advance.

I'm having the exact same problem. Bought two last year, both worked great until this summer, now the flashes on both units are working intermittently, along with very poor battery life.
It's a little frustrating to let them soak for a few weeks only to find the flash hasn't worked on half of the night pictures.

I have another friend that got one this past Christmas and by this summer with only limited use it's already not working at all other then the aim light. Nothing on the screen. Very frustrating. I don't see getting another Moultie in any of our futures.

If you call Moultrie and tell them the problem and get logged into their system they will have you send it in and either charge you to fix it or fix it for free.

The friend that has had it less then a year has sent his back and is waiting for it's return. The friend that has one that the flash doesn't work is afraid the repair bill will be more then maybe it's worth since they don't make that model anymore and you can pick up new ones for $80 now. He may have no choice or just buy another trail camera but not a Moultrie.

Both my D40 cams look like they are useing batteries alot faster now. I might have got a bad batch of batteries so I might buy another brand and try. In 4 days one cam took 3 night pics of a bobcat it's down to 60%. The other cam has taken 6 day pics of me checking it when I walked in. It is now down to 70% after 1 week.

I really like the BF stuff and the idea of biulding my own. I just can't drop the $$$ on those cams. If I could biuld a cam for under $200.0  Imight give it a try.
