Numbers will increase rapidly in Montana as well once general firearm season opens.

They shut down the unit closest to yellowstone a week or so back due to the fact the quota was nearly met and these wolves don't impact ranchers as much. Hopefully MT reallocates those tags to some where else in the state.

I fully agree with re-allocation of those tags, my problem is that they may not impact ranchers much in that area, but they sure as hell impact every other 4 hooved creature.

neccesary? no i dont think so wolves were taken out of the ecosystem and it thrived, that being said with proper management i think that the ecosystem will be fine with wolves, but even 220 wolves in idaho is not proper management just a foot in the door to try and curb the growth

I think you could make the same case for grizzly bears as well.

Agreed, just look at the number of elk that used to be in and around the National Park. Hopefully they do the right thing and let a few more wolves be harvested some where.

69 wolves so far in ID!  I don't believe the quota is going to be reached but I'm happy with the results so far!

Gamies came by the elk camp on 10/22/09 and said that there had been 72 taken so far that they knew of in Idaho.  i was hunting 21A and there was alot of sign around the upper sheep creek area.  in Gibbonsville about 30-45 north of Salmon there is a tavern reader board that says "Kill a Wolf, Free Pitcher of Beer and Pizza."  Now that's motivation!

I was just over in Idaho last week and talked to a guide from unit 19 in the selway, he said hes heard of seven wolves being killed in the selway this year. I seen a huge gray one but could'nt shoot him because I didnt have a tag

I called the hotline today to check on tags, a lot have the critters have been removed from eating deer and elk, but all areas are still open.

Up to 87 now in ID... I'll guess that they will reach maybe 120 wolves for the state... maybe 150 if we're lucky... packs gotta be gettin educated by now!

If you are implying I paid for a hunt your wrong never paid for a hunt in my life and never will. I stay at a guides lodge though for the comforts of home, cheaper than a motel and great home cooked meals for a really affordable price.

Pretty sure thats NOT what he was referring to...
