Blue grouse: Colockum or Packwood?
« on: September 25, 2009, 08:12:35 AM »
A friend and I are going to go tomorrow the 26th for blues for the first time, and we are trying to decide which area to go to.  We live in Tacoma/Seattle.  I was told that Mission Ridge and the Entiat area have birds, but they probably get hit pretty hard?  I've never been to the Packwood area, and the foothills around Mt. Rainier sound intriguing too.  Besides going high, what kind of terrain should I be looking for?  I have a brittany too.

I would be interested to hear this reply as well.

Just saw the wife's credit card bill and need to go hiking and hunt some critters this weekend by myself to blow off some steam.

If you come east go High!!!!  Its been still pretty hot and the blues will be up on the tops until it cools for the most part.  Entiat has been hit hard with campers and archery hunters lately.  I took a nice male ruff the other night in some low canyons on the other side of the entiat (cashmere area) but theres a lot of people out.  Clockum is good up top as well.

Thank you!  Looks like we'll be heading up the Rainier foothills above Packwood.  Going high sounds like a plan!
