How many of you shoot lever guns??? and what type hunter
30/30 WinchesterŽ and 444MarlinŽ for me. 30/30 is for hunting Blacktail Deer; 444 is my Bear and Elk rifle.

444 is one of my favorites.  Dawei, have we met on the marlin forum?

As for iron sites, I've tried some of the williams peep sights on a couple guns.  Accuracy is great, and quick target acquisition.  However, they are not good in low-light conditions and not easy (for me) to adjust.

Sweet piece of a weapon the 300 SAV, it's definately on my to do list.  My son's father-in-law showed me his, an old model 99 in 300 Sav-rotary magazine & the rest of the action was as tight as brand new.  Guess guns are like us...get better w/age eh?

Bought a .308 Marlin Express when they first came out. Liked it so much I picked up a 39A. Had the .308 out at the range yesterday. Always a solid performer with no bad habits and the accuracy is pretty darn surprising. It will be going to the elk woods this weekend.

Got a Win. mod 94 in .30/30 too but it never gets to go anywhere.

I would probably grab for my wallet if I came across a clean 99F Savage but I'm not sure it would replace the Marlin in the woods. In my ignorance I had looked down on Marlins for many years without ever having owned one. Now my bolt rifles all stay home.

Dawei,

That's right, I think you shared some 444 data with me once.

Good times!

I have found a couple of model 94's locally. One is before they put the ugly safety on and the other is a newer crappy looking one. The one that is pretty has blonde furniture and the ejection port still flings brass over the shoulder. It has the side mounted scope but it's a garbage scope. For you guys that own 99's and 88's, I'm extremely jealous that I have to settle for a tube mag but such is life. I think I got the go ahead from the wife so here's my next question.

Does anyone know any smiths near lakewood area that is capable of making one of these things shine?

My first hunting rifle was a winchester 94 in 30.30.  Just sold a Rossi in .454 casuall. that was a fun gun
