I watched a bull elk in NM one year walk about 300 yards down a 3-strand fenceline to step over a break in the top wire, then walk about 300 yards back to his original line of travel.  I think I even called him a lazy *censored* as I glassed him

This guy was in the middle of the road eating on the edge, when we drove up he slowly walked up behind a couple of bushes. We drove around the corner and he would mosey back out. We came back again and he did the same thing. We decide to get this picture on our 3rd pass, I stopped, my buddy jumped out and hid in the ditch. As son as I drove around the corner, he walked back out. He was walking less than 25' and stopping, like we couldn't see him.  When he realized my buddy was in the ditch, he wasn't so lazy anymore

This always amazes me too.  I have heard of whitetail hunters setting up stands like this.  They will block game trails to either side of their stand, and then tie down the top wire at the trail they want the deer to cross.

I've tied my fair share of top wires as well.  I carry a couple zip ties in my pack for this (or attaching tags).  Never had it pay off though.  And I always remove the wire tie when I leave my set up
