2009 5x5 Blacktail Buck
« on: September 16, 2009, 03:21:59 PM »
Started out as slow day. Saw a few does but they are not legal in my unit until after 16th of Sept. Headed back to where I parked and as I arrived I saw several deer on top of hill near where truck was. Walked around hill to come up from back side and see if there might be buck with them. Spotted a small 3 point with them and started stalk. Ran out of cover about 100 yds from deer. I hunkered down in bushes to wait them out as it was getting warm and figured they would head for shade soon. After about 30 mins I lost feeling in legs and deer seemed content to bask in sun. I stood to try and get blood back to legs and this guy stood up about 40 yds away. He must have been there whole time. We stared at each other for few mins. Me unable to move. He decided he didn’t like what he saw and turned to walk away. As his head went behind a large bush I came to full draw. When he cleared bush I whistled and he turned for one last look. I let fly and my Teddy Head ( Magnus Stinger 4 Blade) flew true. 60 yds later he piled up. Furthest shot on animal to date. (55 yrds) Drag back to truck was all down hill luckily because by this time it was hovering around 85.

Considering they are still arguing about which deer developed from which, who knows if they are a cross, or just the original breed of deer, before adapting.  However, fish and game and the books call em muleys if they are east of the PCT.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Well considering that if is over an inch it is an officially scored point (G1 in the link below) Why would it not be considered a 5X5??

Nice Buck man Congratulations!!!!

That didn't answer my question as to why it would not be considered a 5pt?  I am not like an east coaster and add up all the points, but I was brought up in hunting that any legal/scoreable point was counted in the description of a Buck, is this not the official case? Is there an official way? or is it all just preference and opinion??  :dunno:

Sorry if I am thread jacking

There's another thread that discusses whether to count the eye guards, stickers, or not.

Damn nice buck you harvested there!

eye guards count for legality and scoring but most blacktail and mule deer purists dont count eye guards, always do count on whitetails though for some reason either way nice buck

Good thing you had pics with your tag on it, otherwise the tag police would come out..
