Nile Grouse
« on: September 16, 2009, 08:52:54 PM »
I've been hunting grouse in the Nile Unit at my boyfriend's elk camp. I'm going again next weekend and I'm kinda concerned that there are not very many grouse in the area. I've only seen 2 the whole time I've been in that unit. My boyfriend's brother saw one. I really want to get one this weekend as it will be my first kill and once I go back to school at CWU I won't have time to hunt.

I have never hunted the Nile for the sole purpose of grouse but I have heard that the Devil's Table is a really good place. Its off FR 1500, just south of Rattlesnake Creek. You cant really miss it, looks just as it sounds, its a big flat grass plateau with rock slides/crags on all sides. One of these days ill take my pup down there and give it a shot. But until then, good luck. If you dont want to give that a shot, you cant go wrong with any closed off/burmed road, especially if its got some gravel in it and a strip of grass going up the center. Inside turns in them are especially good because water isnt too far usually.

Thanks for the Devil's Table tip. I'll try and hit it up this weekend... apparently the boys are coming home Saturday (sans elk :'() but I'll get the boyfriend to take me for an afternoon!

Does anyone want to share a place near Selah to find grouse? I'm really want to get one before I go back to school.

I used to do pretty good along the creek that empties into Wenas Lake.  Just worked the creek up from the lake.  Need a dog to get them out.  Good luck.

Well Blueskies have you bagged one yet? Interested to see how it goes for ya! Seen a few grouse up the Little Naches area might try up there.
Shut up and Hunt!
