I found this one while feeding cows last Feb. She slipped between the bales and was flat and frozen stiff.

Wow.  I have seen a picture like this from a sheep that got his horn stuck on a tree.  It was there years and years later.

That's a cool story wyohome.  She got on top of the bail to eat?

every year In SE Idaho the deer would eat their way into the stacks and they would collapse on them..

I know of a moose that was found in a sink hole hanging by it's antlers just like the whitetail that was posted above in the rocks.

That is all I could figure. Probably after the top bales were removed, the remaining ones were fresher and not covered in snow.

Yep - they do the same thing around here.  It makes them easy prey for cougars when they're in the bales like that.  This winter 4 were killed by cougar while in the bales at the ranch where I photograph pheasants.  I don't think any died this year at this place by getting stuck between the bales.
