Nikon monarch 10x42 Problems
«
on:
September 25, 2009, 10:19:01 AM »
Has anyone had problems with these? I just got mine like less than a month ago and took them on one elk hunting trip and already the right eyecup wont turn out. Im gonna return them but am now questioning whether i should get the replacement or credit to swap out for something else in a similar price range? ( little to broke for the super high end stuff)

i've had mine for 3 years and no issues. i'm convinced that every once in a while you will find an issue with something, regardless of what quality it is. even swaro's....thats why companies have warranties.
they are good bino's.

My cousin had the same problem with the eyecup. They swapped him out a new set and no problems since.

Nikon has always had problems with the eye cups on that binocular. It is just in the name of the Monarch game. You do need to return it. The next one may work forever...or not. Nikon service seems a lot slower now than a year or so ago. I sent my Monarch in for a general clean and service several months ago and it took them a month. Another time I sent mine in with an eye cup issue and they sent a new binocular in about four days total time.

I've had mine for 5yrs and the eye cup was the only problem I ever had. These were the best binoculars I ever had for the money. Once I got the eye cup fixed, never another problem.

My dad had a pair and after a little rain they fogged up. He sent them in and they gave him a new pair and the same thing happened. He got his money back and bought a pair of leupolds.

Eye cups came off my first pair, but it was at the beginning of deer hunting season so I waited till hunting season was done by using a bit of electrician's tape on both cups. A pain in the arse, it kept coming loose, but it got me through. I sent 'em back with a letter, and like said above, I got a new pair in about 4 days. A new and improved pair.
NOW, had these back for a while, and the right eye cup came off right out of the box.....don't that just tick you off??? Now, once again deer season is staring me in the eye, so I'll have to wait till next year to either send 'em back, or maybe fix them me-self.
Don't know what to do realy, you can't beat 'em for the price and the optics are great, but not sure I'll buy another Nikon product because of these pain-in-the-but problems, regardless of price.

So i took my Nikon Monarchs up to Alaska a couple weeks ago and the eye piece wont turn back out now. They are only two years old. So do I send them to Nikon and will they fix it for free? Thoughts?

yea, if you send 'em back, they will get fixed in record time, and get sent back to you.
The say part is they have to be sent back at all for this. As said above, I'll have to send my second pair back too....yet I haven't. The glass itself can compare very close to Leica, at 1/4th the price, yet they have some severe issues with the eye cups coming off.
Sure hope they can fix it right....otherwise what can we do?
