Here's my '09 high hunt story... On the Sunday before the season opened, my Dad, Mom, Brother and I packed in about 7.5 miles and set up camp. My dad and brother stayed for the week, while my mother and I hiked out that day (had to work). I managed to get Friday off, so after work on Thursday a few buddies and I picked up mom and drove up to the wilderness. Hit the trail head at 8pm and got to camp around 2am. I woke up my brother to find out what theyve been seeing. Through Thursday my dad and brother had seen 13 bears, 26 does and no bucks. So, with no sleep I started my hike from camp to the spot I wanted to be at first light (3 more miles and 1200 more feet of elevation). As you high country hunters know theres just nothing like being on top of the world when the sun rises. Absolutely incredible. Anyways, as the sun shed its light on the drainages I was glassing I saw four does feeding on huckleberries/blueberries. They slowly fed into the timber, and after some time I went back down to meet up with a huntin buddy. He had seen a doe and a bear in the drainage he was glassing and was content to stay put. I decided to dump into a steep drainage that had a series of small benches that create perfect seclusion for animals. I hit the creek bottom and by late afternoon I decided to start my grueling trek back up. As I slowly climbed up to the third bench, there he was. In a perfect, nasty little hole that you absolutely cannot see unless you're in there. Broadside from about 100 yards; give or take. Rallied the troops and got him out and back to camp by 1030pm. A good dinner and then some much needed sleep. It was awesome!! Sorry for the long story, enjoy the pics
