most people that refer to the "burn" are talking about the general area East of the Chelatchie prairie store up Canyon creek the 54 rd and south to sunset falls, you want to see crowds get up there during late buck.

There are some nice bucks in there if you know where to look. Concentrate on small areas that most folks overlook.

OK, so you guys are talking about up around Tumtum mountain and such.

Also, the StHellens tree farm is another very large area encompassing much more than just the area called "The burn".

Sorry I dont know all the lingo for the area. I do most of my hunting around Washougal and parts east of there. I'm learning, I think.

If you want to see crowded durring Late Buck head up above Carson to the Panther creek area.

The original post was asking about newby odds and public land ect...........

For him/her I would say to look toward Wind River 574. It is open for any buck this year where as it was always a 2 point unit for general deer and then Draw for the late hunts. It should be pretty good to hunters this year. It has lots of public access timber lands, is steep, and has some nice ridges and clear cuts. I think in the SW that would be a great option if a guy was in shape and willing to work a little. There will be some crowding on the roads, but most of them hunters wont leave the roads and get up on the ridges. Get up on the ridges first (before light) and if they leave thier rigs they will push deer up to you.
