Should I?
«

I have a whitetail shed that is badly chewed, but still may score well. It has a forked eyeguard and five other countable points averaging 5" long and pretty good mass. Should I have it scored, or would it be a waste of time? I would say overall length is 17". It is missing probably 10" of bone chewed off from the points.

I would add I found in Stevens County, it looks like it could potentially score enough to make the State book, but I really would need to know more on how sheds are scored to be sure, it appears you measure the inside line of the antler shed, rather than inside tip to tip for overall length.

It's up to you weather or not to have it scored. I believe for a whitetail shed it needs to score 60" (typical) or 70" ) (nontypical) to be entered into the WA. state book. This is how one one of my sheds was scored..
Length of main beam..
Length of first point..G1
length of second point..G2
Length of third point..G3
Length of fourth point..G4
Length of fifth point..G5
Length of sixth point..G6
Length of seventh point..G7
Circumference at smallest place between burr and 1st point..H1
Circumference at smallest place between 1st and 2nd point..H2
Circumference at smallest place between 2nd and 3rd point..H3
Circumference at smallest point between 3rd and 4th point..H4
On my score sheet all abnormal points were not added to the total but they were taken off the total score
The total for the shed I had found was 70 0/8...typical whitetail
hope this helps

Circumfrances usually average between 4-5 inches and up for a book bone(20)
main is usually 20ish or more (20)
and the point including the eyeguard need to add up for another 20. A four point needs at least 5 inch points on all of them. Usually its a 3 point, so they have to be about 7 inches average. Anything not meeting that has to be made up elsewhere. Double eyeguards or any extras are Minus that. Chews don't matter. The tine will be given credit for what is there. I hope that helps give you a ballpark.

If you want to get is scored for the state book, let me know. In the meantime, let's see some photos - front, side, rear.

Here it is, without the eyeguard, or other abnormal point I came up with 58 5/8", I don't know how to count the eyeguard due to the fork?

One front shot. So my best guess would be to deduct one fork of the eyeguard and the other abnormal point which would be 60 4/8", or close to.

I'll never forget when I found it. It was during hunting season and I was in the NF, not too far from Idaho. I was walking down this open draw when I could see it laying on a sidehill 100yds away. The hair on my neck stood up, I figured that dude had to be around there somewhere, never did see him though I did see some scrapes and rubs, that deer is long gone now, that was about 12 years ago.

Bow4elk if you think it would hold up passed the 60" mark I would have you score it.

It's a nice shed for sure. I'm happy to score it for you but I'm not sure how we'd get together, unless you wanted to ship it over to Olympia.
Give me a call sometime and we can discuss. the Washington State Record Book has shed entries. Looks like a 130-class deer, but without taping it out, it's hard to saw for sure what that single antler will score.
