Scoutguard SG550 Camera ?
« on: September 30, 2009, 12:54:06 PM »
I have one that has excellent battery life (same 4 AA's since May). First trip out got some excellent Elk pic's. Pulled the camera from my "good" area and have not seen anything on the west side since. Probably technique, but wanted to see if anyone has had problems with this cam. I want to get another one  (SG550v) and this unit's size is awesome, fast trigger and superb battery life.

Your opinions?

I got one for Christmas last year, had it out about a month and had to return it as the remote quit working.  They sent me a new one that I had in the back yard all spring and summer, took it to elk camp for a week and got a boatload of pics of a real nice 4pt mulie, brought it home and hung it back up but the deer have gone elsewhere, just the occassional yote and the neighborhood cats now.  I haven't had to change the batteries yet and I'm using Costco's brand.  I've considered getting a second one to put up in the DNR land behind the house, for the money they are tough to beat.  At that pricepoint you can expect to deal with QC issues in any brand, but i've been very happy with mine.  Rumor has it they are coming out with something new.  Lots of good info on them here:

I have 2, haven't had them up real long but really like what I have seen so far. I went with them because they take pictures as long as thier is movement since I use 1 for security on my Kalama property along with an older bushnell and a Leaf River. Will probably buy a couple more or some of the new bushnells.

Just bought one of the new Bushnells (the same model as Scoutguard SG550) because Scoutguard is STILL backordered and I have to get out in the woods. We'll see how the Bushnells work out. They are supposed to be the same internals as the SG550 but with a square housing.  I'll get back with a comparison in November/December.

Thanks for the feedback. Some day I'll get around to uploading the 5x5 bull taken on the SG550's first outing. Nice bull too.
