Flying Dragons
« on: September 30, 2009, 01:58:33 PM »
I know it's been awhile :'( But I do what I can.  ;)

So I sat around this pond in E. Wash. during the day when I wasn't out Elk hunting because of the heat and worked on catching these guy's.

Forgive any bad ones due to processing as my laptop is dead right now due to a power connection issue on the mother board.

So I have to work on them on the old family desktop with a old Version 4 of Photoshop.
These are all Jpeg's, as I can't access the RAW files. :frown:

C&C Welcome

OK, so these guy's weren't flying. :D

Thanks for looking!

Kirk,  you've got some neat shots of dragonflies there.  I've tried to take a few pictures of them but they seem to move faster than I do now a days.  ;)
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...but, a true friend will be sitting next to you .

Great stuff man.  They can be challenging subjects.  I like the ones with a slightly slower shutter speed so the wings are blurred.  Next time I get out and do it I'm going to experiment with slow shutter speeds so the wings are only a blur and the body is sharp.

I agree. But, I wanted to push it to a point were they were frozen, 1. to see if I could do it, and 2. I wanted to see the difference in the wings between flies. Some are just trashed. It's amazing to think about the ability of the flies to adjust there flying ability over time and wear on there wings.
I do have some were the wings are blurred, I just didn't post them.
I counted 139 pictures, all are like these, I choose these based on where the wings were in the stroke.
I also counted the missing files, either deleted while shooting because of a miss, or focus issue.
There are 31 files missing. not a bad ratio if I do say so myself.
