Good going Gutpile

and MHWASH

Man today was a rough one, VarmintVentilator and I went out this morning about 7:30, we set up on a bluff both taking a side so we could eyeball more area. I got the call going after a couple of locate howls and suddenly I hear the 6.8 sound off to my left. I know how good a shot Varmint V is, so I just sat quietly and continued callin'.
About 5 minutes later I look to my right and I see this dog tip toeing through the tulips , I turn on him and I think I must have spooked him a bit cause he starts picking up his pace a little. I'm in a bad position but was still able to get glass on him at 177 yards. The 25-06 roared and the dog flipped up rolled over, got up, spun around and freaking ran off

"No DAMN way, I said to myself, that *censored*e just ain't right"
Yep...........I lost him
So I looked over to my left and here comes Varmint V and he's empty handed. Turns out he cleanly missed one about 250 yards, he was not happy. So we ended up wandering around to another location to make a second stand.
Again, I start things off with a good long Locate howl and turn the Bandit on to sing the dieing something tastey blues. No kidding, 2 minutes later and I see a coyote running hard right at us at 250 yards out. He's wasting NOOOO time getting there, VV and I get on'em and he clears the little dirt mound 75 yards in front of us and he's still on a charge. 50 yards and I decide to turn the 25 loose on his ass, BOOM and he turns and runs away. VV gets a round or two off and I respond with another. Nothing, then the 6.8 sings once again and we both hear that familiar whack of copper and lead smackin' sweet tender meat.
There he is flippin' and a floppin', spinnin' and twistin', then, he get's up, dusts himself off and runs away???

Noooo Noooo Noooo not another runner! We looked for him for over an hour. Found blood in several places but no dog.
So we gave up and found another stand about 1/2 mile away. When Varmint V is just about to sling lead at a target of opportunity I see a coyote out across the flat. Then another, and one more but the third one is much closer. So we go in the general same direction and I sat up looking out over the bluff onto the flat. Varmint V goes a little farther and sets up over looking the ravine that he thinks this dog is going to use. Well, he guessed right, the coyote came up to within 175 yards and the 6.8 110 Accubond finds it's home right through the rib cage. Then the spinning and rolling on the ground starts all over again, and why should this be any different, eh? Yes, you guessed it, up he comes and the third hit dog of the day runs off

I honestly have never seen this happen before and we was just a little peeved at ourselves.
So now we feel the heat is on, we change up locations and try another spot. So far we had seen 9 coyotes total before noon and now we know it's time to get serious and start puttin' the hurt on these dogs.
For our 4th stand we set up over looking a real nice draw, I get busy on the dieing rabbit distress call from THO custom calls. I'm singing the blues and Boom, I hear that doggone 6.8 sound off once again and I see this coyote flipping and bouncing all over that place till he stops and lays peacefully among the silence. Finally Varmint V makes a case with the 6.8SPC. I keep up on the blues and about five minutes later here comes a pair from my left. I know Varmint V can't see over the small rise between him and the dogs so I let them keep coming in. At about 60 yards I kill the trailing dog just as he stopped to take a sniff. Then the lead dog turns and hightails it back the way they came in, I connect with a 90 grain HP from the 25-06 just before he disappears in the tall stuff. Whack goes the 90 grainer and all I see is *censored* and elbows as the male takes a header.
What a day, we are beat but heading back out tomorrow morning with fully loaded mags, as this time I'm taking my 6.8 along for the ride for fast follow ups.
