The dumb ones are dead guys , Calling from now on until spring is going to take some education unless you have some isolated ground that no one else can call on  .

I did exactly what Wade was talking about for a number of years.
whenever i saw a coyote out in a field or in the sage i would get a ways away from it and howl and watch its responce.
I re comend this to any and all of you .
Its a learning tool and you will learn allot about howling and what kind of howls to make .
You wont howl in many at first , but if your a good student you will in time figure out what works and what sends them in the other direction with their tail between their legs .
Howling is an art , calling in and working coyotes is an art.
Time in the field will answer your questions, and just when you think you have it all figured out you'll hit a three week dry spell LOL.
I could write a book on what i have seen and learned about howling in coyotes , it takes allot of hours and allot of patience and for me has had limited success.
I think anyone who claims to have a Hugh responce from coyotes just by howling them in is very well optimistic )
its just like all things that apply to calling right place , right time , right animal .
always remember when using a howl on a stand always watch the down wind  ;)

Well that verifies some suspicions I have had for years.  It really dose come down to the right place, Right time, right amount of pressure.  It is a mater of time in the Field, trial & error, learning from mistakes & how to speak their language.  Thanks for the info...
I guess I was paranoid of the lack in responses lately, along with some criticisms by other hunters who seem to have an unfounded opinion about the right approach of when & how to use the howl..  Every situation is a opportunity to learn something new.

I'm not that good at this game, but just this  winter I was in a barking contest with a yote not 200 yds away and had a blast playing around with him.  The best part of that few moments was there was another coyote less than 50 yds. from me the whole time and it never phased that dawg abit, being that close to my call.  When I got done barking with the one yote. I killed the other.  Like Jerry said, the dumb ones usually die.  The next time out, I can't get a response out of anything, using everything in my bag.  Maybe that's why they call it hunting.  Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't. :dunno:

That will just teach ya to be careful with who you hunt with.  It was a SLIGHT criticism BTW...

Maybe you should consider a AK 47 i heard you can run them over with a truck and they still work so i guess throwing them at varmints wouldnt hurt them either .  :chuckle:
