Confidence at the range?
«
on:
October 08, 2009, 08:10:28 PM »
Well I had some troubles on my elk hunt this September. I missed some shots and wounded a bull that survived. I went to the range tonight and shot this group at 100 yards.
My point for posting this is It does not matter how good a hunter can shoot at the range if he can't contain his excitement to some degree in the field. I even got so rattled that for the first time ever I could not keep my bow back as a nice 6x6 came in at about 15 yards. I drew back and it let right back down. No explanation other than I got rattled, bull fever if you will.
Practice is so important yet it does not prevent excitement from interupting our concentration in the moment of truth.

you got that right. I remember last year, the first time i went archery hunting was for turkeys. I was able to shoot more than one time that evening. The nerves i felt were like none other. I missed every shot and couldnt even control myself
. Now i'm getting more confident in my shooting, so that helps my shooting when im hunting quite a bit

Good thing those hay bales hold really, really still...

Are you not the same guy that single handled thinned the nooksack heard(empty quiver) this year on your draw hunt. Then when another member challenged you to a shoot out at hundred dollar bill, winner keeps the money you pussed out. You must have huge balls or no brains, I guessing no brains

How can you even see that dot at 100yds??? My pin would cover that dot and then half the bale maybe, what size diameter is your pins?? I got .019 size and at 60 it cover the 3in dot, I couldn't image shooting at a 100 and guess where the dot was.
If that is a 100 then your the man.

When I go to the range I always start every session at 100 yards. When the groups finally start coming together that is when I know my form is locked in. Then I will start shooting closer in. And yes that really is 100 yards. I am using a Top Gun 7 pin sight with a oval sight shroud. I have room for probably 120 yard pin.
I believe I can. Just believe you can and you can do it too.

I have never back out and shot that far out. 70 yds has always been my max, but shooting at that range makes the 20 and 30yd shots seem like gimmies.

Exactley. I shot my desert buck at 52 yards right through the heart. I didn't even have to think about it. Ranged him and plunked it right through him. Easy as that.
As soon as I can afford it I will be getting a new bow and I believe I will most likley put the 7 deadly pin sight on it with the small pins. I think 100 yard groups will shrink a little more.

Everybody makes mistakes and I know I can attest to that. But after all that has been said, I think that you would be doing yourself a favor if you just kept to yourself for a while on this site. I'm not putting you down, just think that anything that you post in an attempt to restore your image is gonna get torn apart. It comes across as if you have a big ego that can't take the fact that your hunt didn't go well. I'm not saying that you do, just letting you know how it comes across.
Anyways, I'll take your word on that grouping and say nice shooting. Bear
