My moose hunting trip actually started after I joined this site. I drew the tag for idaho area 1-1 and the season was for oct 1 to oct 14. I posted here and started getting tips on areas to look at and people who had hunted moose started telling me what I needed in the way of supplies. As time for my hunt got closer people offered to let me stay at there cabins; to go help me hunt and call and even gave me there cell numbers to call if I had one down and needed help getting it out.It sure showed me that the people who are on this site not only like to hunt but care about other people and are ready to help make someone they don;t even know have a chance to suceed in there hunt of a life time. We did;nt get to scout with the economy and price of gas so got to our area 2 days before the season and started looking over some of the spots that I was told of that might hold some moose. The first day we saw 5 the second day 13 with one really nice bull. He was with 4 0ther bulls and one cow we planned to hunt him the next day but the forrest service started a burn right next to them and they moved. Opening day we saw several smaller bulls and on the way down the mountain we saw this one with a couple other bulls who were close to his size. We tried to get closer but could;nt find anywhere that could get us there. We have a big gun we use that is a 378-338 with a 6.5x20 that is a 50 millimeter that is a shooter. We put a bulls bag on a cooler and with spotters using spotting scopes took the shot. The bull flipped clear over on his back and we thought we had him down so tried to find our way to where he was. It took what seemed forever to find the right hill every cat road we tried was so brushed over it was almost impossible to get in on but we finally got under the side hill he was on and started up and it was really up. My other boy went back to where we shot from to direct us to the bull. When we found blood my boy told us the bull was up and on the other side of the bush from us. When we went up the hill it was so steep you had to grab onto limbs to pull yourself up so instead of taking the rifle since we thought he was down we took a 454 casull pistol. When he saw us come around the bush he lowered his head and charged I shot at about 10 feet hitting him in the head and the bullet came out his eye and he landed right at our feet. You talk about an adrenalin rush our knees were knocking for a long time. A friend who had just in the morning helped a 49 degrees north friend get a 47 and a half inch bull showed up to cape and help get our bull down the hill. It took 3 and a half hours to get him caped and down the hill. It was a special hunt for me to be with my two sons and my grandson and to camp and share with me the excitement of this hunt. Again thanks to all who helped me have my hunt of a lifetime.  DEL
