I found this old hood piece on the river bank.

If it's smok'in it's cook'in. If it's black it's done.

If you float the Methow you won't be able to count the cars that have been left for dead.

Imagine this! Way back some time after the 1948 flood the powers to be decided to use the old junk cars for rip rap in the river to keep it from washing away more land. The benefits were, got rid of the junkers, place for the fish to live, helped stop washing. Then at a later date when the river was well littered and lots of gear grease to leak for years to come the next power to be decided to make the Methow a scenic river and they pulled a good share of the ones out that hadn't been ground up in hi waters.   That is why there is so much scrap pieces of metal in and along the river.

Idahobooner - I was thinking the same thing.  I have seen junkers used for shoring up the river banks along the Newaukum, Chehalis, Willapa, and a handful of other rivers that escape me at the moment.  Usually when salmon or steelhead fishing.  I used to think it was funny (in an odd sort of way), when we were in high school and jumping off of bridges and train trestles that one particular spot I ventured, but never jumped off the trestle, one of my friends said if you jump off the trestle stay to the left or right.  I don't remember which side, but his sound reasoning was that there were some car bodies under the water on the left or right and he said you don't want a car hood up the rectum.

I don't ever remember anyone ever getting hurt, but still thinkg it was kind of odd that people still jumped into the river on a regular basis from 30 - 60 feet up.

Found several old trucks out hunting, found an early 50's truck, think it was a chev, during early archery miles from any road. Forgot my camera that day :bash: I'll have to start taking some pics when I find em.

For now this is the only pic I have, maybe not what you are looking for, but it is left for dead , even has a tree growing through it

Here is my favorite Left for dead that I have found so far. It's an old Road Grader.  :IBCOOL:

I know this isn't an old tractor or truck, but it is a piece of equipment sitting outside a mine shaft in Idaho.

Wanted to say again what a great topic. I love seeing the pictures of the old rigs that have been left outdoors. Seen many over the years just never had a camera with me.
