Another Hangman Moose Down 09

Well I had a great time at Mica on Thursday. Rolled in early and saw plenty of nice bulls. One right away which made me really wish I hadn't drawn a cow tag, but none the less a great thing to see. Around 10am I had my scope in a cow at around 250 yards and decided that I really wasn't ready to be done hunting yet and hoped I could get better shot, so I passed. After a quick bite to eat, I headed out again to glass and saw a cow down below me about 600 yards, so I drove down to see If I could get on her. When I got there I heard a crash in the brush which got my blood going. I walked around the corner and stumbled into a great bull about 20 feet away. I pretty much froze with my jaw open. After what seemed to be forever, he finally looked over at me and gave out a big woof and took off. The other direction thankfully!! About that time I ran into the pack train(Elkspert) taking out Zack's big bull. Nice to meet you guys, by the way. I then hopped back on my 4-wheeler and took the next road down. I came around the corner and there she was about 100yrds away on the side of the hill. One shot in the neck and she dropped like a ton and rolled down to the road. I drove back down to the gate where I was thankfully able to role my trailer under and hook it up to the 4-wheeler. We met, I assume wantthuntmore and wife before we took off to load up some meat. I was fortunate enough to be able to drive right up gut her out and load up for the drive out. Great experience and hope to one day get a Bull to go with her.

Congratulations! At least you got your moose early in the season. I got mine with one hour of daylight on the last day of the season up on Mica Peak. You get a little paranoid when you are out there on the last day with time running out. It was the same with my goat, but I got my bighorn the day after the opener. Those DIY hunts with no one to help are really really taxing, especially the moose.
