My shotgun choke is stuck
« on: October 07, 2009, 06:56:56 PM »
I have a side by side 12 gauge and one of the tubes wont come out.  I have tried to use the wrench with little progress.  I have tried getting oil into the threads and turn it but with no luck.  Any suggestions?

I know you said that you tried oil.  Here is a penetrating oil I use that will usually break loose stuff no matter how frozen with rust or grime.  PB Blaster, you can get it at most auto part stores.  Good luck...

PB Blaster is good stuff...let it soak a while...

If that doesnt work, rest the choke end of the barrel next to a heater for a while so the barrel heats up a little, and it should expand more than the choke tube and allow it to be unscrewed.    :dunno:

I am another one that will promote PB Blaster for this sort of thing.

break-free is a good one for seized chokes.
let it sit overnight if needed, then when you do get it out, get the threads good and clean before you screw another one in.

Best stuff for penetrating threads is pure Oil of Wintergreen.  It must be purchased at a pharmacy, (does not need a prescription)  We used it all the time in gunsmithing school, it came in real handy, when someone brought in great grandads old SxS that had been sitting in the closet for 40 years.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.
