300 wsm issues
« on: October 07, 2009, 10:39:22 PM »
I talked with a friend of mine and he is having pressure signs with factory ammo out of his newly purchased remington xcr in 300 wsm. He is having a hard time opening the bolt after he shoots this factory ammo. He said it was winchester ammo. Just wondering if anyone else was having the same kind of issues???

i have a weatherby vanguard in a 300wsm using Winchester accubond and have had a little trouble when the gun was new but after a box or two i didn't have any trouble with it. maybe try switching over to a federal round and see if it does it. might be a bad box of ammo  :dunno:

Factory ammo is hot.
You are shooting a magnumb.
I would guess the Remmy is is a little rough in the finish department, too.
Unless you see flattened primers or bulges inthe casing, split necks, I wouldn't worry.

I had a sticky bolt in my Kimber 325WSM with factory Winchester ammo.  It went away when I started shooting reloads.

My boy just told me he had that problem with his Savage.  He thought it was one of my reloads, until he told me which casing it was.  Sounds like he was shooting a factory Fail Safe cartridge.  I keep my reloads toned down.  Guess it popped the primer.

I think that some of the factory loads are just hot. My father-in-law shot factory loads in his 300 WSM, and he was getting pressure signs as well.

I have shot factory 300 WSM and some hotter handloads with nickle and brass cases in my Tikka and never had a problem.
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

I had the same issue last year with my browning 300 win mag with Fusion, I switched to federals and have not had a problem since

Hmmm....Fusion is made by Federal  :dunno:
Back on track, Winchester 180g Accubond CT's are loaded hotter from the factory than many and my Tikka 300WSM has also shown flattened primers with it.  I've found the Federal 180g Barnes TSX show no over pressure signs and it shoots better groups.  :twocents:

Barnes TSX's are as close to a match bullet as you can shoot big game with.
