Not elk, but I've killed a couple mule deer with it.  30-06 165gr. worked pretty good.

Its marketed as a deer bullet. I'd have more faith in the Fusion (being bonded) as opposed to the cheap cup and core bullets a lot of guys use for elk.

Thanks for your help. Fusion shoots better out of my gun than the federal premium does, but I am nervous switching to a bullet that is marketed towards deer for elk hunting. It even has a picture of a whitetail rack on the box. If the bullets don't break apart it should be just fine. Hopefully I get to try it out on a deer before elk hunting.

The ammo manufacturers recommendations are based more on bullet weight than anything else. They say that you need a heavier bullet to kill an elk than a deer. This is a guide line only, lots of elk and other larger animals have been taken with 140-150 grain bullets. Correct shot placement is more important than anything else. If you put the bullet where its supposed to be the fusion ammo will work just fine on deer or elk. But if the ammo manufacturers can convince people that the lighter bullet won't take an elk then they can sell more ammo. Every elk and deer I've ever taken has been shot with a .308 shooting 150 grain bullets. Same thing is true for my brother, between us that makes about 30 animals. Just my  :twocents:.
