Really nice buck, littlebuf.  It looks like his neck is pretty fat.

I saw a bunch of blacktail bucks this weekend and none were close to rutting.  They were still in summer mode munching in the morn and sleeping all day.  I did see long guard hairs starting to grow for the winter coat though...

I've hunted the Skokomish unit the past 2 years and the Blackies were peaking rut right around Halloween. They were completely done before late archery and nocturnal again. In fact, on the recommendation of some locals, I hunted the modern season with archery tackle and got into rutting bucks. Heard its that way all over the Olympics.

I have a bunch of does that hang out behind the house in the marsh.  Never see a buck with them until the last couple of days of October - and guess what's on his mind......  Of course no seasons are open at that time  :bash: :bash: and then he's gone.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

Looks like he has a sore throat to me??

I agree with everyone.  Late Oct.-mid Nov. for the rut.  In my experiences I feel as if the BT rut is a little earlier that of WT and MD.  I always did good the last weekend of the regular season..  Right around Halloween.  :twocents:
