Deer mount is done!
« on: October 10, 2009, 12:02:19 AM »
Well, today we were having a party at the house to celebrate my son's 14th birthday. This morning my buddy, who is also a taxidermist, called and said that my son's buck from last year was done. I went and picked it up and added it to the list of items that this spoiled kid was getting as a gift. Buck turned out great.

Here are some field pics from last fall

And here is the finished product

Close up of the antlers

Here's the three muley bucks that currently occupy this wall. Upper left, Gavin's '06 buck / upper right, my '05 buck / bottom center, Gavin's '08 buck.

:yike:  Beautiful boys on the wall...I like the double brow tine. Were they taken in E Wash? You should be proud of your boy to take a couple fine bucks like that.  :rockin:

Are those all three Washington bucks? It looks like the Taxidermist took the dry velvet off of your sons buck and even colored them antlers a little darker. It looks great.

Actually, looking at the picture a little closer - it's a neat mount.  I love the slightly greater head turn and a little of the white of the eye showing.  That's really cool.

Who did the work for you?

Thanks for the comments guys. The taxidermy work for the '08 buck was done by a good friend from high school. His name is Trent Mooney, and you can reach him at 509-554-1720. The two bucks on top were done by a gal out of Pendleton, but she has passed away. I'm thinking that Gavin stands a pretty good chance of having a shot at another buck of this caliber this year, but we'll see.
