Pheasants and quail near Moses Lake
« on: October 09, 2009, 11:32:15 PM »
My friend and I are planning a hunt for the first time around Moses Lake on the opener for pheasants and quail.  I usually go after chukars but my brittany is 12 and I need to keep him on the flat stuff.   I assume I should be looking for feel free to hunt areas or game dept. release sites.  Only problem is I don't know where these are.   Where do I start?  I can't find feel free to hunt areas on the game dept. website.  Any help is much appreciated.

I went to school at Big Bend and hunted one of the release sights on Rd. 14 a couple times.  The day after they release is pretty good, but the birds have a Big Bend education for sure and just gather up around the feeders.  People hunt the hell out of them and the coyotes dine easy for a week.  I found some birds on Dodson Rd. heading towards Royal City.  Brush corners on cut corn fields usually produced, or along canals near corn or orchards.  The wild birds out there are large and educated, so have fun and good luck.
