Boyds stocks
« on: October 11, 2009, 10:51:01 AM »
Has anyone had any experience with one of the featherlight riflt stocks made by Boyds Gunstock Industries? It looks like they're having a sale and I've been contemplating buying a thumbhole stock for a while. At $99 for a finished stock, it seems like a good price.

Are these decent value for the money?

I have built one rifle on a JRS Classic stock and it turned out well.  That was before Boyd's moved to a much more dealer-centric model of distributing their product (vs selling direct to the consumer).  Since then, I haven't found a single thing I've wanted; they've cut back their direct inventory way back.  YMMV

i bought one of the laminate thumbholes and it needed tons of work to fit my 700 action, it was well worth it and very rewarding.
when all else fail, grab the browning machine gun

Boyds makes a decent stock, but they are not a high grade piece. Good price for decent quality. I picked up a couple when they had their sale.
Never, ever let Creed hold you baby, it will ruin it and you will have to get another.

this is a very old post but i am interested in putting a new thumbhole stock on my 7mm.
i have what they call a "walmart M70 with floor plate molded into the plastic. do these stocks require action bedding? is that very hard to do?
