ONLY Nov. 16.  If anybody tells you anything different, they are WRONG.  Just kidding.  Dman's correct, somewhere around mid-Nov in my experience but I've definitely seen bucks with swollen necks in Oct.  I talked to a Game Warden in MT once (about white tails) and he told me that he thought the peak was Nov. 11.  Probably weather related and maybe day length.

I do not know what the peak is... But last year on Oct 31, I saw many bucks with their noses up a doe's ass or on a trail of a doe.

I agree, I have seen rut activity in early October, always worth getting out then.

I also agree with Dman. It seems like it is usually in November sometime, but can vary by a couple of weeks. I've seen it as early as the last week in October and as late as Thanksgiving. I'm by no means an expert, but if you're in the woods when it peaks, you'll know it.

I asked a WDFW biologist about the timing of the rut in an email last year, and this was his response:

The rut for westside blacktails is pretty
well documented to happen between October 25 and November 10.

From my experience, i noticed that the blacktail rut is usually in full swing about the same time as modern firearm elk season is. But that could be because i'm hittin the brush more too. But its usually sometime in November.

The buck I shot last year was on Oct 20th. He was chasing a doe and was all swelled up and stinky. I love it when they get stupid.
