Dead Deer in the Rain

So where i hunt is mostly canyons and wheat fields, and ive NEVER had to deal with rain(till this year) what are my best bets for finding deer? im guessin beating the brush and doin some hard walkin is in store? any other tips?? thanks guys, everybody have a great opening weekend!

I've found that deer are often out in the open during the rain , they use there sight to make up for lack of scent and sound.

For the blacktails to be out and about, it HAS TO RAIN!!!!  It is written down somewhere I am sure.

The sound of the rain on the brush helps cover all the noise I make. I really prefer still hunting in the rain over a nice sunny day.

the only time to hunt blacktails is in the rain. what i've always have done is hit a opening in the morning and walk the timber patches during the middle of the day. the rain helps to hide scent and noise.

When you say Canyons and Wheatfields, Im thinking you hunt in Eastern Washington. I've found that during the rain, most Mulie Deer tend to bed down. But I have also seen the opposite. When its windy Mulie Deer tend to bed down.. Example: This years Muzzy hunt.. Opening day, I seen 9 legal bucks. I said, its opening day lets try to find something bigger.. That night it started to become windy and it stayed windy for 3 days.. I never seen another legal buck for three days.. After the wind quit, I started to see deer.

Yeah, that has been my experience where I hunt. Both Whities and muleys usually get down out of a heavy wind. When it is raining, the patterns are a little different but the deer still tend to move a little.

Thats pretty much what I was going to say. I've hunted the wheat country all my life and they bed tight when it's windy. Don't think I've actually shot one in the rain but they still move about. Frankly though I find that the bucks tend to bed down during the day regardless of weather until other hunters push them around a bit.

just get out there and hunt!  If it's windy look for bedding places, if it's rainy or snowy... all the better.

This is the reason I spent a lot of money on good rain gear. Deer should be out and more importantly, fair weather hunters will NOT. Even many of the hunters that come out for the opening morning won't make it past lunch if it's raining raining hard. This could be the best opener I've seen in a while.

Maybe the clear cuts won't look like pumpkin fields for a change
